OLD NEW IN VALENCIA
MAYO
Saludos a Thisisvalencia y sinnamon.....gracias!!!!!!Mariano
Gracias a Tivlc y sinnamon!!! Un saludo, Héctor.
Being the first ' FORWARD' festival I think it was undersold, but this has advantages, so although being in a large conference hall, it felt much more like a private or underground gig. which really appealed to me. The crowd was only about 15-20 people deep.
I liked the mix of DJ set and live band/group, it gave much more choice for the fans, and while Fangoria was a big hit, Underworld did seem to be the favourite doing many of their favourites with some cool video and instalations on the set.
My only complaint was that the DJ booth was at the same height as the crowd, so all you could see, unless watching the big screens, was the top of the DJ's head!
Generally a good night, which I am sure will increase in popularity with time. Mike.

MYA NIGHTCLUB OPENS When we were asked to go to the opening of a new club in town we jumped at the chance. The Valencia club scene, not being its best at the moment, needs some new competition and what better than a beautifully designed, little place, set in the idyllic grounds of the Ciudad de Artes y Ciencias.
Ok, it took us a while to find it, Miss C and Anita complaining in their heels, and Mister Madrid moaning as usual, but once we got there we were knocked back.
M.Y.A is the newest member of the clever L'Umbracle family. Full of the bold and the beautiful of Valencia, a band stand above the bar, a dj booth in between the huge VIP area and the dance floor, 3 bars, space for 500 people, and fantastic toilets. Being the opening night, they had a strangly interesting band playing for maybe a little too long, the main singer dancing as though she was on drugs and no-one was really sure if she was singing in English or Spanish, but she certainly got the party started. Free endless champagne until 2am, and gorgeous people walking around with red vodka shots in lab glasses. Strange and beautiful pictures projected on the vast walls, gogo dancers that didn't dance much but were wearing outfits any girl in her right mind would kill for and perfume on sale in the toilets. The only down point, is, unless youre a VIP theres nowhere to rest your heels and catch your breath... All in all, a top opening night, and we'll definetely be back soon. Lolita x Open thursday to sunday every week from around midnight. For more info, http://www.umbracleterraza.com/mya/galeria/.

IL DIVO - THE REVIEW OF THE CONCERT, WITH PICTURES Click here for the review of the concert and some excellent exclusive pictures. NEW!!! LUPE - LA GRAN TIRANA Do you hanker to see more theatre in Valencia but spend much of the performance playing catch up, as you struggle to make your understanding of Spanish fit with what is being spoken on stage? Well, help now is at hand. On May 25th a play about the life of La Lupe, the Cuban singer, opens at Teatro Flumen. It is performed in Castellano, but has a synopsis of the scenes in English as an addition to the programme. 'Lupe-La Gran Tirana' tells the incredible story of a woman as much celebrated as she was damned. In the 1960s in Havana Picasso declared her a musical genius. Less than 30 years later she was struggling to survive in the New York Bronx. The production has overcome its own language hurdle, with an English director with limited Spanish working with a Cuban actress with little or no English. Their like minded approach to theatre and a need to communicate on another level has created more than a little magic. Yamilet Duran Sosa is La Lupe, Samantha Holland directs and Miguel Angel Rodriguez provides the music. Go out and catch some culture in Spanish, whatever your level of fluency, in the knowledge that you have some kind of back up when someone asks you what was it all about! The 1,000 kilometres will mean that the drivers will have to complete a total of a total of 250 laps of the winding course of the Ricardo Tormo Circuit of the Valencia Region in Cheste. And the good news is that entry is free, and only 10 euros for entry to the paddock.Valencia joins the great circuits of Monza (Italy), Nurburgring (Germany), Spa (Belgium) and Silverstone (Great Britain), which all celebrate this championship. 160 drivers from 26 different nationalities grouped in 44 teams from 11 countries participate in the championship. Prada, the internationally famous Italian fashion house, and one of principle sponsors of the Luna Rossa team in the long-awaited America's Cup, is about to hold one of the biggest events in Valencia. The date? The 15th of April. Where? The famous, just reformed and finished Valencian Central Market.(Mercado Central) Why? To celebrate the America's Cup of course. Who's going? Everyone that's anyone. With a VIP guest list of 1500 people, we're talking about a big party. It has been leaked that Sharon Stone, Brad Pitt (yes ladies, you read right) and Angelina Jolie are amongst the hundreds of big stars attending And they will all get a specially prepared dinner, with banqueting tables up and down the huge aisles of the central market. It is said that the stall holders will cater the event, but also rumoured that it will be catered by another company that has nothing to do with the central market (I do hope they use the central market produce though!). Not only have Prada had to pay more than 3000 euros to use the central market for one night, but they have also had to ask for the building plan (as they are not quite finished yet) to make sure that the venue will be building free and perfect for this one night. They have had to promise that the market will be cleaned up and perfect by early next morning, so that it can go back to normal business, the same promise Michelin had to make when they took over the central market for a smaller and more modest event a while ago. It is also rumoured that the organisation will pay each stall holder around 350 euros to thank them for their contribution. Think about that seriously, more than 400 stalls, 350 euros...140,000 euros - Minimum. This is going to be the Valencia's social event of the year. I'm waiting for my invite!
